Dungeon Run Build Guide

Dungeon Run is an original Wildercraft game that is part dungeon crawler, part Minecraft survival mini-game. With a special Dungeon Key, you and up to 3 other friends can enter a dungeon instance and fight your way to the end for fame and wealth. Paths are randomly generated from a set of pre-made rooms built by staff and the build team, so no two games are ever the same.

Room Themes

There are four types of dungeon rooms that you can encounter: nature, sewer, keep, and nether.

Nature rooms rely heavily on the wilderness. You will find many trees, flowers, babbling brooks; everything else Mother Nature has to offer.

Sewer rooms are a dank and creepy place. You'll find water running everywhere, cackling witches, poisonous traps, and much more.

Keep rooms are like your classic stronghold but amplified. Stone bricks, lots of architecture, ruins of an ancient civilization with danger around every corner.

Nether rooms give you the feeling of walking through the portal. Netherrack and zombie pigmen, nether fortresses and their protective blazes, pools of lava and burning fire; all can be found within a Nether room.

In a 100 room run, you will encounter 25 rooms of each theme. You could also choose to do a 25 room run of only one of the themes.

Mini dioramas of each room style are shown below:

If you have an idea for a room, but are questioning whether it will fit a theme, feel free to ask for clarification!

How to Build Your Room

You can break down building a room into four main steps:

  1. The Frame
  2. Walls/Floor/Ceiling
  3. Decorating
  4. Mobs/Loot

The Frame

Dungeon rooms have specific dimensions that must be followed. There are two room sizes that can be encounter in a run: normal and tall.

Normal Room:

  • Length: 16 blocks
  • Width: 16 blocks
  • Height: 11 blocks

Tall Room:

  • Length: 16 blocks
  • Width: 16 blocks
  • Height: 22 blocks

To help adhere to these dimensions, you will be provided a plot with a pre-built frame (default is normal-sized room). This frame can be seen below:

You are allowed to design a tall room if you wish, just make sure to build it the right height (twice the height of a normal-sized room)

You should not need to break the white blocks. Leave them as a guide to know where you can work within. Do not remove the orange blocks, that is limit for how far down you are allowed to build. The red blocks represent where the door frames have to be, and the yellow blocks represent the height the floor at the doors must be at. You are allowed to break these red and yellow blocks when you are building your room. The 2x3 space must be kept empty to allow the door to spawn properly. The picture below shows what the doors look like, so keep that in mind! You do not need to build the door though, it would spawn when the room is generated in a run.

Walls/Floor/Ceiling

Once you have decided what room theme you want to build, you can start with the walls and floor. You can make the floor flat or multi-leveled, just make sure the floor at the doors is at the required heights. For the walls, you can do one type of block or a mix of many.  Experiment to see what you like!

Make sure there are no gaps where players can fall through into the void or climb out through the ceiling. Ceilings are required in sewer, keep, and nether-theme rooms.

The only time you can get away with no ceiling is in a nature-theme room. In this case, barrier blocks would need to be placed. Since you won't have access to barrier blocks in the creative menu, leave a sign stating you intend for barrier blocks to be placed in the ceiling. You may still make a solid ceiling in a nature room if you wish.

Decorating

The most fun part of the build! You may decorate your room however you like as long as it follows one of the four aforementioned themes. Always make sure your builds follow /rules as well (nothing inappropriate, etc).

You are also allowed to add a minor redstone contraption if you want, such as a switch that reveals a hidden chest. Traps made to damage players are allowed (i.e. flying arrows, falling anvil); just make sure it follows the minor redstone rule.

Irons bars can be broken with an iron pickaxe or TNT, and infested cracked stone brick can be blown up with TNT. Blue concrete will heal players when stood on, while lime-green stained class will poison players. You can use these mechanics to spice up your rooms!

Mobs/Loot

The final step is to show where mobs and loot chests should spawn.

Here is a list of possible mobs you can add:

  • Zombies
  • Skeletons
  • Spiders
  • Witches
  • Drowned
  • Zombie Villagers
  • Silverfish
  • Slimes
  • Strays
  • Wither Skeletons
  • Cave Spiders
  • Blazes
  • Zombie Pigmen
  • Magma Cubes

While not every room is required to have mobs, it sure adds to the challenge and fun of Dungeon Run! To signify that you want a mob to spawn in your room, place a sign down saying "mob: [name of mob]". Do not spawn it in with a spawn egg. An example can be seen below:

You can have a maximum of four mob signs per room, so choose wisely what you want to spawn!

Do keep in mind that for the normal 100 room run, the dungeon progressively gets more difficult as your change from theme to theme. So if you are making a "Nature" room, avoid putting in the more challenging mobs, as players will only have starter gear. Likewise, if you are making a "Nether" room, avoid adding easy enemies since players will have much higher loot by then.

Loot chests will auto-generate a set amount of gear for the room depending on the type. You do not need to put in loot for every chest you place, just set the chest where you want it and you are good to go!

Let a staff member know when you're ready to save and export your Dungeon Room so they can follow this guide!
