When I had the void shulker in my inventory (not in hotbar) it stored the items I picked up.

Not a bug. Intentional mechanic.

Edit: Not intentional, I just read this the wrong way. Please write full bug reports using the provided format to avoid this confusion in the future.

It should only work when in hotbar, so we'll look into this. Thanks.
