When I try to place Ominous Banners into the Trash Can shulker they will not go in neither when I right click the banners.

Place a trash can shulker on the ground and open it and try to either manually or right-click a stack of Ominous banners into it.

I expect the banners to go in and be destroyed.

They won't go in when other items go in just fine.
